Figured I'd toss this out now, so we can all mull this over. How hard would it be to put together an informal longboarding event this winter? I personally would hope for a west coast venue 'cause I'm self centered. Where could we do this? Need to have somewhere to meet/greet, a relatively safe place for a Chinese downhill, maybe some cat riding. And lots of snow. Toss out some ideas here, let's see what we can make of this.

Jon, funny you should mention it...things are being looked into as we speak...no firm details, but loosely it would probably beeither west coast or in the rockies and would be two to three days. Will let you know if I hear anything else.
cheers,
sandy

Of course Ralph, You will definaely get an invite and we will try to schedule it around your off time. I also agree that we need to make it like the FIRST-TRACKS event. Will keep you updated as to the event details and sched.
cheers,
sandy

In the self-centered vein, Tahoe would work for me. Depending on what weekend it ends up being, I could probably provide some lodging for folks, and definitely could provide a place to tune boards, shoot the bull and drink/eat. Alpine and Squaw are probably my votes for best places if speed is in the offing. Northstar might work, but its usually such a mob scene there that it can be difficult - plus their set up makes it difficult to bring multiple boards and change mid-day (although it can be done - you just have to plan to carry a board down the lower mountain at the end of the day when you ride out).

IMO, Alpine offers one of the best places for a Chinese DH type event. There's a section of the Sherwood trail that's rarely got any people on it, stays smooth/groomed, has a good pitch and at the bottom we can pull right into the Ice Bar for mid-morning beers. In fact, maybe the competition winner is the first one to be seated, beer in hand at the Ice Bar after a mass start from the top?!?

Stay tuned...

Hmmm... taz smokum too much stuff in bowl....I work outa the Bellingham area. If I drive crazy fast I could make Fernie a overnight trip, so if everything comes together I might do it this winter.

Any of you guys finally run out of crack and decide where we might get together? I live in western Montana, so Big Sky or Fernie are both do-able. Big Sky has (as I'm sure many of you know) some very nice, very long cruisers perfectly suited for deep trenching and allow enough space to manuver the Queen Mary, or whatever big board you might be riding. Count me if if there's enought support.

I'd be willing to attend a long board event anywhere worth making turns in the U.S.

I'm even willing to go to Ak if anyone wants to plan a event for next winter. I could also be talked into South America this summer but would like to go with someone that knows the area as I don't speak the language... I only know enough to order beer.
